The King Seiko lineup was originally created by the Daini Seikosha division as a luxury hand-wound series intended to compete with Suwa’s Grand Seiko line, but interestingly the first automatic King Seiko models were developed by Suwa Seikosha, featuring the high-beat 56 series calibre which would go on to become one of Seiko’s most successful and widely used automatic movements, powering various King and Grand Seiko models across the late 1960s and 1970s.
This 1979 King Seiko 5621-7000 is powered by the 5621 no-date movement, a rare variant that gives the dial a clean and balanced aesthetic, featuring a classic white dial with slim baton indices and matching hands, housed in a distinctive cushion-shaped case with a brushed front and polished sides, and finished with the signature monobloc gold KS medallion on the caseback.
The watch is in good condition overall with a recently serviced movement that runs well, a clean dial, light hairline scratch on the crystal, a well-preserved gold medallion, and an unpolished case showing only light signs of wear including a small nick on the lower left lug, making this piece a fine representation of late-1970s King Seiko craftsmanship and design.
