Seiko’s Seikomatic collection of the 1960s embodied some of the brand’s most refined and elegant designs, evolving from the ultra-thin Seiko Liner series and positioned at the higher end of Seiko’s automatic lineup. True to the name, all Seikomatics were powered by automatic movements.
This example houses the upgraded Caliber 395 with 39 jewels, a gold-plated movement notable for being the first Seiko automatic to feature a calendar complication and hacking seconds, along with 50 meters of water resistance – highly advanced for its era.
On the back sits the rare decagon caseback proudly bearing the Dolphin logo, the same emblem later associated with Seiko’s first professional diver, the legendary 62MAS.
The watch here features a clean dial with chapter ring, applied Seikomatic logo, dauphine hands and indices. The “AD” marking indicates a rhodium-plated case, which remains unpolished with hairline scratchs, and retains its sharp beveled lugs. Light scratches are visible on the crystal, while the movement has been recently serviced.
The engraving on the caseback shows some fading but remains legible to the naked eye. Measuring 37mm, it offers a highly wearable vintage size with timeless elegance.
A fine and historically important Seiko, this Seikomatic Cal. 395 represents one of the brand’s earliest milestones in automatic innovation and remains a rare find for collectors today.
