The Seiko Seikomatic-R series, introduced in the 1960s, was designed to cater to the business executive market, offering refined aesthetics and upgraded mechanical specifications.
This particular example, the 1966 Seikomatic-R 8346-9010, is a rare model not often seen on the market. It features a bold, all-stainless steel round case with a striking multifaceted bezel and a raised vintage acrylic crystal, which enhances its vintage character. The standout feature is the textured black dial, finished with a dust-speckle effect, giving it a unique and sophisticated depth. The dial is complemented by applied baton indices and sharp dauphine hands, creating a clean, dressy aesthetic.
Powering the watch is the 8346 automatic movement, introduced in 1966. It beats at 18,000 bph, features 27 jewels, and includes a quickset date along with a semi-quickset day function, advanced features for its time. The day changes by rotating the crown back and forth between 10 and 12 o’clock positions.
The watch is in good condition overall, with the movement running well. The case shows light signs of wear, appropriate for its age, while the dial and crystal remain clean and free of any major blemishes.
The Seikomatic-R 8346-9010 is a fine representation of Seiko’s 1960s craftsmanship and executive styling, an uncommon and collectible vintage piece with both technical charm and visual appeal.
