The Seiko 5206 movement made its debut in 1970 as part of the Lord Matic series by the Daini division.
This 1972 Lord Matic Special 5206-6081 here offers refined design and high-grade mechanics in an understated package.
The watch features a sharp-edged case paired with a calm matte dark blue dial. Polished L-shaped baton indices and sleek hands give the dial a crisp, elegant look. The case has been polished while maintaining its original lines, with a nice mix of brushed and polished finishes on the sides and front. The crystal has been replaced and is in clean condition. The dial remains in clean great shape condition.
Inside is the hi-beat Seiko Caliber 5206, running at 28,800 bph. It includes hand-winding, hacking, and bilingual day/date functions. Notably, the 5206 features an instant day/date changeover at midnight—a rare and desirable trait compared to the slower transitions in other movements. The movement is running smoothly, with good accuracy and power reserve.
The 5206 served as the base for other high-end 5200-series calibers, including those used in King Seiko models. The Lord Matic Special is often overlooked, but it offers KS-level quality and features at a more affordable price—making it a great value for vintage Seiko collectors.
