Before ceramic and sapphire are used as scratch resistance material in watches, Seiko experimented with tungsten carbide in 1980s in their high end Dolce range and a limited Grand Seiko SBGT009 in 1988.
The tungsten carbide has a hardness of 2600Hv that is harder than sapphire and only second to diamond.
With the difficulties of engineering and machining requirements are why there is no tungsten carbide watch produced today, making the Seiko Dolce tungsten carbide series a rare watch and worth for collections.
This Seiko Dolce 1220-5120 has size of 23 x 34 with unique double bar tank case, a rare dolce similar to the tank chinoise model. The 1220 quartz movement produced in 1980s is still working great with accuracy of +/- 15 seconds/month.
The dial presents a simple gold color with a gold dauphine hands. The crystal is clear, it has onyx stone attached to the crown.
With proper care, you will be assured a crisp case that will stay almost scratch and wear free for the foreseeable future.
