Seiko 44KS King Seiko 4402-8000 SGP Silver Sunburst Dial

The King Seiko 4402-8000 is a later evolution of the famed King Seiko 44-9990, featuring a slightly smaller case, slimmer lugs, and smoother sides than its predecessor. Despite these refinements, it retains Seiko’s Grammar of Design principles with its sharply defined case lines, thin bezel, and polished surfaces.

Produced in 1968, this example showcases the classic King Seiko aesthetic: a silver sunburst dial, faceted thin applied indices (double at 12 o’clock), polished dauphine hands, and an applied Seiko logo paired with the printed King Seiko script above 6 o’clock. This particular 4402-8000 variant also features the lightning bolt logo and a date window.

The watch remains in good original condition, retaining its raised acrylic crystal (with hairline scratches), clean dial, and original signed crown showing no peeling. The SGP case is well-preserved with minor hairline scratches and a small dent near the lower right lug edge, while the gold medallion on the case back remains in excellent condition.

Powering the watch is the hand-winding Caliber 4402, beating at 18,000 bph and equipped with a quickset date function. The movement has been recently serviced, runs accurately, and delivers a power reserve of over 24 hours when fully wound.
