Seiko Seikomatic 6206-8040 Weekdater Silver Sunburst Dial
Seiko Seikomatic 6206-8040 Weekdater Silver Sunburst Dial
The Seiko 6206 caliber represented a shift from the earlier Seikomatic caliber 400 movement in the early 1960s, beginning in 1965. This gold-finished movement operates at an 18k bph vibration rate and includes Diashock protection, making it the workhorse movement of its time, particularly tailored for the Seikomatic range with its split day-date dial.
The Seikomatic 6206-8040 from 1965 epitomizes the timeless elegance of vintage watch design with its round case but sharp edges following the Taro Tanaka design principles. Its silver case is complemented by a silver dial adorned with stick indices, doubling at the 12 o'clock mark, along with a minutes inner ring, silver dauphine hands, and split weekdater day-date windows with English day indicators.
Despite showing signs of wear from its decades of use since 1965, such as hairline scratches and small dent on the case and a few light scratches on the crystal, the dial exhibits no signs of aging except little signs of wear. The watch still maintains its reliable movement with normal accuracy and power reserve. The 6206 movement features a quickset date mechanism, and adjusting the day by moving the time back and forth between midnight and 9 PM.
The Seiko 6206-8040 remains a sought-after collector's item within the vintage Seiko watch range.
