Seiko Quartz Superior 4883-8100 White Hobnail Dial

During the Quartz Crisis era, Seiko continued to push the boundaries of precision and innovation. In 1976, the brand introduced the Quartz Superior line, setting a new benchmark in accuracy at ±1 second per month. These watches also featured an extended battery life of over two years and a high oscillating frequency of 32,768 Hz, hallmarks of Seiko’s advanced quartz engineering.

When released, the Seiko Superior was the brand’s most expensive model, retailing at ¥180,000, while the most costly Grand Quartz of the same year was ¥100,000 illustrating the Superior’s premium status in Seiko’s lineup.

This example, the 1977 Seiko Superior 4883-8100, showcases a bold and distinctive design. It features a white hobnail textured dial with unique L-shaped raised baton indices, a minute track, and a Superior logo above the 6 o’clock position. The day-date window, two-tone hands, and the sharp-edged HHS stainless steel case further emphasize its refined yet commanding look. The watch is paired with its original steel bracelet, completing its cohesive aesthetic.

In excellent condition, this piece shows no signs of wear on the dial, has a clear sapphire crystal, and a polished case that still retains its sharp edges. The original signed crown remains intact, the only hint of aging is a patina on the date window, creating a subtle two-tone effect that adds character. The bracelet fits wrists up to approximately 19 cm.
