Seiko LM 5206-6051 Lord Matic Special White Sunburst Dial

The Seiko 5206 movement made its debut in 1970 as part of the Lord Matic series by the Daini division. Around 1972, it received an upgrade to the 5216A, featuring a more efficient calendar system.

The Lord Matic Special model we have here is the 5206-6051, equipped with the 5206 movement produced in 1972, just before the transition to the 5216A. Both movements operate at 28,800 beats per hour, representing the hi-beat technology of its era. They feature a bilingual day and date display, as well as hacking and hand-winding functions. However, it's worth noting that only the 5206 movement offers the spontaneous instant day/date changeover at midnight, which adds to the watch's appeal compared to the gradual transition observed in other movements.

The 5206-6051 boasts a unique tonneau-shaped case with elegantly curved end lugs, complemented by a 6-links LM bracelet. The stainless steel case exhibits a combination of brushed patterns on the front lug and polished finishes on the sides. The dial adopts a simple yet sophisticated approach with its silver color and sunburst effect, accentuated by stick indices and hands.

Maintained in excellent condition with no apparent signs of wear, this watch operates with commendable accuracy and power reserve. It comes with its original bracelet, fits wrist sizes up to +/- 18.5cm.

The 5206 movement served as the foundational platform for other 5200-series movements used in King Seiko models. The Lord Matic Special, often underrated, offers the quality and functionality comparable to those of the KS and GS series but at a more accessible price point, making it an attractive option for enthusiasts on a reasonable budget.
