The Seiko Grand Quartz was a high-end quartz watch brand from Seiko in the 1970s, debuting in 1975 with the introduction of the new Cal. 48 quartz movements.
The 4843 movement has an accuracy of ±5 seconds per month, making it a high-accuracy quartz of its era, positioned just below the Quartz V.F.A. when it was launched. The 4843 was only used for three years before being replaced by the 9943 movement in 1978. It also has a unique feature that the seconds hand jumps ahead 5 seconds when you pull the crown to adjust the time.
This particular 4843-8001 features a robust design with a large case size for its time and distinct lug shapes similar to those of the Grand Seiko, influenced by Taro Tanaka's grammar of design. The 19mm steel bracelet is well-built and designed, similar to the bold design of the King Seiko bracelet.
The watch is in very good condition, showing no obvious signs of wear. It has a clean dial and a polished case that retains the original textured brushed front and polished sides, along with the sharp edges of Seiko Tanaka's design. The original bracelet fits wrists up to approximately 18.5 cm in size.
This Grand Quartz 4843-8001, in its all-original condition, is highly sought after in the vintage Seiko market and is worth collecting as part of Seiko's quartz history.
