Grand Seiko Hi-Beat 61GS 6145-8000 Silver Sunburst Dial

The Grand Seiko 61GS series debuted in 1968 as the flagship line from Grand Seiko’s Suwa factory, replacing the 62GS and introducing the high-beat 6100-series movements. It was the first automatic Grand Seiko line to feature a 36,000 bph high-beat caliber, offering exceptional precision and a beautifully smooth sweep.

This Grand Seiko 6145-8000 is a classic example of Taro Tanaka’s Grammar of Design, defined by sharp case geometry, and a clean, balanced dial layout. The date-only configuration of the 6145-8000 is especially appreciated by collectors for its symmetry and understated elegance.

Inside, the 6145 high-beat movement runs at 36,000 bph, features automatic and manual winding, and includes a quickset date. This particular piece from 1968 is in great vintage condition. The movement has been recently serviced and runs well, the dial is clean with no visible aging, and the crystal shows few light hairline scratches that are not very noticeable. The case remains unpolished and retains its original sharp edges with minor hairline marks, while the gold medallion on the caseback is well preserved.
